Team of Mississippi Pastors to tour North Dakota

A team of 28 Mississippi pastors will travel to North Dakota with Mike Ray to see what God is doing and to discover ways to help partner in His work in the Peace Garden State. Ray is the Director of Missions Mobilization for the Mississippi Baptist Convention. The team will have opportunity to meet with several Dakota church planters and pastors and travel to various parts of the state.

The tour is part of an informal partnership that has been growing out of the friendship between the executive directors of the two state conventions. Mississippi executive director Shawn Parker and Fred MacDonald, the DBC executive director, began serving in their roles within months of each other in 2020 as the pandemic was starting. This connection brought the two together as they sought to understand their new jobs. As their relationship developed, they recognized that each state could be an encouragement and help to the other.

MacDonald and Dakotas Send Network Director Buck Hill have made two recent trips to Mississippi with different DBC pastors to begin building relationships with pastors and associational missionaries.

In addition to Mississippi churches exploring opportunities to help churches and new works in the Dakotas, there is a need for Dakota churches to consider sending mission teams to Mississippi. Parker recently shared with Dakotans that there are churches all across Mississippi and particularly in the delta region that would love to have teams help with VBS and outreach. He encouraged Dakota churches that have an interest in this to contact either MacDonald or Hill and start a dialogue about needs and opportunities.
